The Royal Hotel A Brief History.

Originally built in 1884 by Mr Henry Turner, The Royal was Babbacombe’s first purpose built hotel. It was opened in a blaze of glory, to which local dignitaries and businessmen were invited to a sumptuous dinner.

The then named “Turner Royal Hotel” was born. With its fine cliff top position, mild climate and fantastic panoramic views of Lyme Bay and Portland Bill, the hotel was very popular with many repeat visitors. This popularity extended right through the twentieth century, until the decline of the typical seaside holiday in Britain, with travelers going further a field. In more recent times Babbacombe has re-invented itself as a great short break or long weekend destination.

With this new found popularity we have embarked on the next generation of accommodation at this unique location, where we will bring a slightly modern twist to compliment the idea that Henry Turner first created.
